ABOUT JAI NARAYAN VYAS UNIVERSITY

Jai Narain Vyas University, formerly known as the University of Jodhpur, was established in 1962. The President of India, Prof. S. Radhakrishnan, inaugurated the University of Jodhpur on August 24, 1962, and defined the goals and objectives: “That the young people, who will be educated in this university, will go forward not as prisoners of the past but as pilgrims of the future; will develop in them a spirit of dedication, a spirit of renunciation, a spirit of whole-hearted, single-minded concentration on the advancement of knowledge, whether in science or the humanities”. The University stands as an oasis in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, quenching the thirst for knowledge for thousands of students every year. The university holds prestigious accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a notable B++ grade. This esteemed institution is a diverse and multi-disciplinary academic hub, proudly catering to a vast student population exceeding twenty-six thousand regular students and over ninty thousand private students through its impressive network of 427 affiliated colleges.

The university’s distinguished alumni, includes luminaries such as Honourable Justice Dalveer Bhandari (International Court of Justice) and notable public figures such as Honourable Shri Ashok Gehlot (Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan) and Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat (Cabinet Minister), and Prof. Pramod Tandon (Padma Shri) showcase the institution’s rich legacy of excellence. The conferment of honorary D. Litt. degrees upon esteemed individuals like Late Ms. Lata Mangeshkar and Justice Dr. Dalveer Bhandari, as well as a D.Sc. degree upon esteem Late Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, reflects the university’s commitment to honouring exceptional achievements in diverse fields. The recent accomplishment of the university to secure a 100 crore grant from the PM USHA grant scheme further underscores its dedication to fostering cutting-edge research and impactful extension activities. Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), Jodhpur plays a vital role in producing high-quality educational media content to promote digital learning and distance education across India. It serves as a key centre of the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi enhancing access to knowledge through educational films, e-content, and online programmes.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY (UGC-CAS)

The Department of Botany was established in 1948 at the erstwhile Jaswant College and became part of Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur, in 1962. It has a strong legacy built by eminent botanists such as Prof. U.N. Chatterjee, Prof. K.S. Bilgrami, Prof. H.C. Arya, Prof. M.M. Bhandari, Prof. Narendra Sankhla, Prof. David N. Sen, Prof. B.D. Sharma, Prof. N.S. Shekhawat and Prof. H.S. Gehlot, whose contributions shaped its foundation. Currently, the department has 21 faculty members (6 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, and 14 Assistant Professors). With its modern laboratories and smart classrooms, the department has garnered national and international recognition for both teaching and research.

The Department of Botany has received sustained support from various national and international agencies, including UGC, DST, DBT, CSIR, ICAR, FAO, UNDP, and the World Bank. Since 1980, it has been funded under the UGC-Special Assistance Program (SAP) and was upgraded to the Centre of Advanced Study (CAS) in 2014. The department has also been selected for the UGC-COSIST program to raise postgraduate education and research standards. Additionally, it has successfully completed DST-FIST Phases I and II, both rated “Very Good,” and was awarded FIST-III (2017-2022), significantly strengthening research infrastructure and academic excellence at national and international levels. Research output exceeds 50 publications annually in indexed journals.

The department has active National and International Collaborations and MOU’s with many Institutes and Universities of India and abroad. Specialisations include Plant Physiology, Stress Biology, Ecology, Mycology, Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology, Plant Biotechnology, and Biodiversity Conservation. The department has implemented CBCS, NEP-2020, and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Ph.D. and D.Sc. programs. The Botanical Society organizes botanical excursions, extension lectures and cultural activities, ensuring the holistic growth of students and researchers.

The Department of Botany, Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur, takes immense pleasure in announcing the International Conference on “Recent Innovations in Cellular and Molecular Biology: Emerging Insights and Applications” from December 04 to 06, 2025. This conference aims to provide a dynamic platform for researchers, academicians, industry experts, and young scientists from across the globe to share their latest findings and innovative approaches in the rapidly evolving fields of cellular and molecular biology.

As biological sciences enter in an era driven by molecular precision and cellular insights, it becomes imperative to integrate interdisciplinary research to address global challenges in health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. The conference will serve as a confluence of ideas where fundamental discoveries meet translational applications, fostering collaborations that transcend institutional and national boundaries.

Plenary lectures, keynote addresses, invited talks, oral and poster presentations, and interactive sessions of the conference aims to inspire young minds, encourage scientific dialogues, and strengthen networks among the research community. The participants will have the opportunity to interact with eminent scientists, explore cutting-edge technologies to gain valuable perspectives that can drive innovation in biological sciences.

The scientific sessions will explore recent advancements across a wide range of disciplines, including Cellular and Molecular Biology, Cytogenetics and Conservation Genetics, Biotechnology, Plant Physiology, Cellular Signalling and Stress Biology, Omics Technologies, Environmental Sustainability, the Indian Knowledge System and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), Computational Biology, the Molecular Basis of Diseases, as well as the Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) in Agriculture and Research. Emerging tools such as CRISPR, Single-Cell Sequencing, and Bioinformatics will also be highlighted.
